I have witnessed many fish in my time within this hobby. Most are fairly fun to watch and monitor. Some are really on the dumb side of the evolutionary process. And some are like this Novaaculichthys macrolepidotus wrasse. On a scale out of 10, where 10 is being the most personable, the Sea Grass Wrasse scores an easy 15. They are like a dog of the wrasse family. You can literally pet them.

At night, they burrow in your sandbed like most wrasses. They eat anything that you can throw at them. They swim like they are trying to imitate a free floating piece of algae. And, they are amazing at controlling pests, like Red Planaria flat worms and montipora eating nudibranchs. What a bonus!!

They are mainly found Indo-West Pacific, the Red Sea and East Africa all the way to New Guinea. They are super green in color and have different dark markings making them look like marine plants( such as sea grass).

These fish are priced adequately at 30$-40$ a piece. For all the work that they do in your aquarium, it is worth spending that money on this type of wrasse.  But like all wrasses, they are prone to jumping out of your tank. So be careful when you care for this fish. If you can, have your lights come on slowly so that there isn’t a sudden blast of light into the tank. Quite frequently, this flash of light scares fish to jump out of the tank. So be careful.
