Was staring at my RKE this morning wondering why my pH has been holding a good reading. It was 7.9 at 9am. I was accustomed to readings of 7.7. I know, YIKES! I used to never get 7.9 until much later in the day. How am I getting a much higher reading without raising the alkalinity or getting more gas exchange? I’ll take ‘Your bulbs were old’ Alex for 1,000.
If you are a regular here at Fragd.it, you would have read our posts on pH and the battles to keep it steady and in the right range. For those who are new, I suggest to sign up for our article alerts, or just skim through theses informative posts: Controlling Your pH, and 20K vs 10K: The Effects on pH.
While the fragdit newbies are reading, I want to show the regulars some ‘rational’ thinking.
Lets use some basic logic:
New bulbs+higher PAR output=more photosynthesis
more photosynthesis=higher pH values
New bulbs+higher PAR output=higher pH values
Its so simple that it could be easily missed while looking for those low pH answers. By simply switching to new bulbs, you can drastically improve the general pH levels in your system. Something to think about before you are stuck in front of your pH monitor!

It would be nice if the RKE could track the bulb life hours…
I know. Maybe suggest that to the DA staff?
@ Vlad. I did two firmware revisions ago…
