The rare (and some would say ULTRA-RARE) Naoko’s Fairy Wrasse made its first appearance in Toronto this week as one store receieved 3 of them in a shipment.  As expected, they’re fetching a high price; about $200 each.

A realatively new species, as it was described for the first time this year.  Naoko’s Fairywrasse (C. naokoae) was discovered by Hiroyuki Tanaka.

It was named Cirrhilabrus naokoae, Naoko’s Fairy Wrasse. It would reach 7.5 cm or more and comes from Medan, northeastern Sumatra, Indonesia. It was described by Randall & Tanaka, and Naoko is my wife.

Thanks for the photo, Steve!
