I picked up a used Vortech MP40 for a great price. It ran fine in the seller’s tank, but when I got home it rattled. A lot. Like, louder than any pump I’ve ever heard.
After messing around with it for a bit, it’s still got quite the rattle. It’s unusable.
So, I’ve emailed the company. How’s everyone’s experience in dealing with EchoTech Marine? Do they have good customer service? Will update with the response.

I had exactly the same issue as you, these pumps are great but you often hear about these noise issues. My new one is not 100% silent, but it is not loud and pushes water like crazy.
In my experience EchoTech’s customer service is very good. The problem is that, at the time I dealt with them at least, their Canadian representative was a little slow turning things around. You most likely can deal straight with them, but will have to deal with any duty issues.
Thanks Mike. I’ve emailed them about the issue and hopefully I hear back soon.
Good thing you have yoru own duty discount a la moi. Instant 50% off
Mine is also not the quietest I must say, but Jeff is not understating the rattle one bit.
I want to see a video on how loud it is.
do a video blog
Same thing here, I bought two MP40W and find them very noisy compared to my old Tunze pumps.. I’ve gotten used to it though, but I wouldn’t even recommend them unless for an inwall tank.
Interesting, as I heard them at someone’s house, and to my ears (which are either sensitive or deaf) they are tolerable. I guess it depends on the individual.
Here’s a video of the pump after I played around with it. It’s tolerable on the high end, but not on the low end. I’ve emailed it off to EcoTech Marine. The magnet looks pretty worn out.

get any replies from EcoTEch?
I emailed them on the weekend. They didn’t get back to me, so I called them. Sent them two emails so far. Hope they get back to me tomorrow.
The Vortechs will be quite loud during the first week of operation and you will be amazed how much they quiet down after being run for just a week. I do believe this is specified in the instructions. I was incredulous that the noise would substantially diminish after breaking in but it will.
