My tank is having serious issues.
I haven’t been blogging lately because I’ve been down on my tank. Blogging here reminds me of the problems my tank is having and I seem to want to hide my head in the sand about it. I can’t do this anymore. I’ve lost at least a dozen smallish colonies. Most of them were raised from small frags.
So, it’s really sucked that I’ve lost so many colonies. The bigger problem is that I don’t know where the problem lies. While I was away, something happened with my CO2 regulator and my alkalinity and calcium were extremely low. It’s been fixed and balanced.
Along with the low alk and ca was a powerhead that was leaking electricity (stupid Korallia 4s). Thanks to Gregg helped me diagnose that problem.
I’ve had a slow and steady loss of coral colonies and frags. It’s most noticable on the SPS coral, but I’ve lost some LPS including some beautiful pure red acans and a largist colony of duncans that I raised from 2 heads. In short, my tank sucks right now.
Fish are healthy. Anemone is healthy. There are quite a few healthy corals. I don’t get it.
I’m going to take some of my coral over to Vlad’s this weekend to get him to hold on to it. He’s got some of my coral already (precious, precious sunset monti) and he’s got extra room.
I’m at a loss here. I moved about a year ago and while I had some bumps with my tank because of it, most things seem fine. I’m thinking of doing a full water analysis to see if something leeched into my tank. I really don’t know what the problem is and that’s the worst part. It could be something as simple as needing to let my tank stabelize after having so many problems. Hopefully it’s that.

Test results? TDS? I agree water is the most likely suspect. I am around tomorrow so get ahold of me if you need a hand or a refreshment!
On a side note, my water quality has been sh!t as well, I have had an outbreak of cyano it seems and I haven’t had cyano in years! Follow that with my first (dealt with) valonia outbreak and it’s time to change all my RO/DI filters! FINALLY I going to attack the small flatworm population in my tank right before my weekly water change tomorrow, so it is safe to say I feel your pain buddy. On a brighter note my RBTA split and is eating like a pig, well now two pigs!
Hey Jeff,
Some things to check are RO/DI TDS, and nutrient build up (ie P04, No3). If these are in check make sure your major elements are in order and stable (ie. calcium, alkalinity, magnesium).
Hope things turn around for you. I’ve struggled with my tank for the last year myself. I run a BB systems and have been seeing high nitrates no matter what I do. Right now I make keep up my water changes and waiting for a RDSB to kick in.
