So to update you all, for my last post on this topic…. I ended up purchasing 2 Mexican Turbo Snails (or what I call them Lawnmowers) and 2 different types of Tuxedo urchins. That brought the snail count to 7, which not only switched to the 5th gear in algae removal, it also cleansed the tank of coralline algae.
The verdict: Mexican Turbo snails not only work for this nuisance algae, but they are the only thing that will eat it. Do not waste your time with anything but this method of eradication. I didn’t change my light cycle. I didn’t prune any cotton by hand. Nothing but the snails.
So next time you have a red cotton algae outbreak, put in some Mexican Turbo snails and let them mow your lawn.

thanks for the first hand info … currently have this algae in refugium and wish to remove it.
Mexican turbo snails are the only species of inverts that I have seen to eat this stuff. They prefer very thin algae, and this red fuzz is exactly the type.
