After a whirlwind 16 day tour of England, Germany and France, I’m back in Canada and staring down a tight deadline at work. My vacation was mostly reef free. The closest I got to reefing was walking by an off track betting store front named Coral.
Also, we visited Dover. Know what makes the white cliffs white? Yeah, they’re made up of calcium carbonate from old corals skeletons, sponges and other critters. Some people look at the cliffs and see a natural wonder. I see media for my calcium reactor.
Now that I’m back, I have a ton of material to blog about. Here’s a couple of articles I found interesting:
StonyReef wonders why 16 stingrays were killed by a temperature spike. Couldn’t that have been prevented with a simple controller?
An idea was presented at ICRS to help control algae on the reefs. A giant vacuum cleaner. Yes, you read that right.
Coral Morphologic has some thoughts on coral mucus.
